Health is influenced by biological, social, economic, and environmental factors and their interrelationships. People who live in rural areas are at a higher risk for poor health. Research shows that social factors, including educational attainment and poverty, account for over 1/3 of total deaths in the United States in a year. The most recent US Census data indicated that 17.9% of Cochise County residents live in poverty (2011-2015). Given this reality, Cochise County residents identified good jobs and a healthy economy as a priority for improving our health.
