Good Jobs & Healthy Economy

Flexible Payment Planning

Priority Two

Health is influenced by biological, social, economic, and environmental factors and their interrelationships. People who live in rural areas are at a higher risk for poor health. Research shows that social factors, including educational attainment and poverty, account for over 1/3 of total deaths in the United States in a year. The most recent US Census data indicated that 17.9% of Cochise County residents live in poverty (2011-2015). Given this reality, Cochise County residents identified good jobs and a healthy economy as a priority for improving our health.

"Rural risk factors for health disparities include geographic isolation, lower socioeconomic status, higher rates of health risk behaviors, and limited job opportunities. Higher rates of chronic illness and poor overall health are found in rural communities when compared to urban populations(Rural Health Info)
