Healthy Community Committees (HCC)

Beginning in 2013, Cochise Health & Social Services (CHSS) and University of Arizona Cooperative Extension (UofACE) supported the development of “healthy community committees” throughout Cochise County. The focus of each committee is to identify and address health concerns specific to their neighborhoods, towns, and surrounding areas, and to assist the Healthy Cochise Coalition to implement CHIP goals and strategies within their communities. In the spring of 2016 there were three existing HCCs in Sierra Vista, Fort Huachuca, and Willcox.  With staff support through CHSS and UofA Cooperative Extension there are now eleven active committees.  Below is a summary of each groups’ achievements in 2020-21

Be Healthy! Sierra Vista

The Be Healthy! Sierra Vista Health Advisory Committee is a collaborative group that leads, promotes, and advances sustainable health initiatives through the development of strategies and objectives that address identified health priorities.

Healthy Bisbee

Formed in early 2017, the group has been focusing on increasing the number of affordable housing units in the Greater Bisbee area.

It's mission is creating opportunities for residents to have a healthy lifestyle. Has focused on public transportation, expanding school gardens, and many other initiatives! Currently working to develop a walking path to join the High School and Middle School.

Benson Community Resource Council "BCRC"

Established in late 2017, the group has focused on a visiting program for home-bound seniors.

Convened in late 2016, the group has focused on access to emergency care, transportation, and access to healthy foods.

Established in Fall 2018, the group has developed strategic goals to focus on community engagement, mental health/substance use, and access to healthy foods.

Bowie has been running has a combination HCC and SHAC (School Health Advisory Council) lead by the Bowie Superintendent.

Step Up With Douglas

Membership is growing and strategic planning is in process! They are focusing efforts on transportation, walking paths, and access to healthier foods.

Fort Huachuca Community Ready and Resilient Council

Convened in 2014, they are addressing health issues on the fort including: workplace wellness, access to healthier eating choices, tobacco-free living, and much much more!

It's mission is to promote health in the community. They are actively working and training in Mental Health and requested well water testing. They are in the process of elaborating their mission and vision statements

Winchester Heights Health Organization

It's mission is to promote health in the community through active living and healthy eating. They have a new Community Center. Children are receiving vaccinations. The Chiricahua Mobile Clinic provides medical services every Wednesday. They have a food pantry and sport events.
